Here Is What You Missed
Brandon and Julia have portrayed romantic partners Spencer and Alexandra in the hit show 1923. Throughout the series, their characters have faced many trials and were separated at the end of Season 1.
During the entire second season, the two remained apart, leaving audiences hoping for their reunion. In the season finale, they finally reunited, but the moment ended in tragedy.
Alexandra was stranded in the middle of a Montana winter when Spencer happened to see her through his train car window. He left the train, and the couple ran to each other, embracing as if everything would be okay. However, fans soon realized that Alexandra’s injuries were more serious than they had initially thought; she had severe frostbite.
She was rushed to a hospital, where she gave birth to her six-month-old baby. Despite the medical advice she received, she refused the amputation that could have saved her life.
She fell asleep in Spencer’s arms, and when he woke in the morning, she was dead. It was a tragic ending to an epic love story.
Spencer never moved on from his first love. In the final scene, 45 years later, after Spencer had passed away, he found himself in heaven. When Alexandra saw him, she smiled and said, “What took you so long?”
“The heaven scene is profoundly beautiful. It’s the best way to possibly wrap up that story. They’re finally both free. Him landing there, he’s just died as an old man and has no idea where he is. So that moment where I’m looking around the room, his shoulders and his face are relaxed. You want him to feel like he’s finally at peace and not holding any tension in his body or in his face. There’s no tension anymore. You want him to feel almost like a little kid, carrying this pure little boy energy. And then she sees him through the crowd and the whole, “What took you so long?” just hits me right in the heart every time, even just thinking about it now. The hand and the spinning around … I just remember filming it and standing in the corner and having to wipe my eyes because it was so beautiful. I was just crying too much all the time.”
